OVI brings a broad and unique mix of skills, experience and knowledge that continues to compliment public & private regeneration stakeholders in building better & more sustainable communities in the UK.
Place.
Effective design measured by a sense of place remains a significant drive in our approach. The local need, regional direction & the national shortage must be equally understood. We continually ask, challenge, listen and discuss our approach to design, building material & methods with local stakeholders.
Health and Happiness.
We facilitate improved space creation through natural materials, light, patterns and forms. Ensuring projects connect to their place, climate and culture. Imposed interactions between human and nature. Promotion of excellent indoor environment quality.
Beauty.
All projects, not just our own, should meaningfully integrate public art and have features purely for human delight and the celebration of culture, spirit and place. Our work seeks to improve the enhance the efforts of the collective involved and improve the quality and results delivered in many different ways. Small measures & decisions often create the most impact and beauty, befitting the community we work for.
Energy.
OVI is passionate about exploring both renewable and low carbon potential in every project we influence. Maximising the use of on-site renewables where possible. Renewable energy sources make up 26% of the world’s electricity today, but according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) its share is expected to reach 30% by 2024. “This is a pivotal time for renewable energy,” said the IEA’s executive director, Fatih Birol. OVI will be publishing further details of it renewable and low carbon initiatives as we continue to explore effectivity and buy-in throughout the UK.
Materials.
Embodied carbon impact through construction should be monitored and accounted for. Responsible procurement of certified raw materials such as FSC timber. Place based solutions, local suppliers and economy and net positive waste through design.
Water.
Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) & Sustainable Urban Drainage (SuDs) is vital in meeting the various challenges present in beautiful, efficient and sustainable urban design.
We fundamentally agree with the approach of Green Blue Design:
"The most robust and effective schemes are implemented when, at the very earliest stages of the design process, Planners, Landscape Architects, Architects, Civil Engineers, Tree Officers and all other stakeholders work to decide on the configuration and appropriate scale of SuDs interventions on site”.
